Admission to the Certificate Program

Admission Requirements:

Prerequisites: A strong background in biology and chemistry is considered a minimum prerequisite for admission to the online Molecular Medicine Graduate Certificate Program at the University of Mississippi Medical Center. 

  • A bachelor’s degree, preferably in biology, chemistry or a related field, from an accredited institution. 
  • Successful completion of at least five semester-long courses related to biology, chemistry, physics, math and/or engineering. 
  • Overall GPA of 2.0 as shown on an official undergraduate transcript. 
  • Completion of online UMMC admission application. 
  • Official transcripts from all colleges/universities attended. 

Admission to the Graduate Certificate Program is based on fulfillment of the general requirements above, without regard to race, color, religion, sex, age, disability, marital status, national origin, sexual orientation, genetic information or veteran status. A student with a baccalaureate degree from an accredited institution may apply for the Certificate Program.

If your bachelor’s degree is not in a related field, you may be required to meet additional prerequisites for the Program, and these may be determined by contacting the program director, Dr. Bettye S. Hennington. 

Undergraduate, and graduate if applicable, degrees must be earned from an accredited institution.  Applicants are required to submit an official transcript of grades to the Office of Enrollment Management. UMMC accepts e-transcripts, which must be sent directly to transcripts@umc.edu. If your school of attendance uses e-transcripts, please note that our institution is listed as University of Mississippi Medical Center, All Admissions. International applicants must have transcripts evaluated in a course-by-course report from World Education Services (WES) or Educational Credential Evaluators (ECE). 

International Students:

Transcripts must be evaluated on a course-by-course report from World Education Services (WES) or Educational Credential Evaluators (ECE). 

Applicants whose native language is not English and/or who have completed their tertiary education primarily outside of the U.S. must submit official scores of the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL), International English Language Testing System (IELTS) or Pearson Test of English – Academic (PTE-A) as evidence of English language proficiency.

Minimum scores for Admission are:

79 or higher
TOEFL – Paper-Based Test (PBT)
550 higher
IELTS
6.5 overall band score or higher
PTE-A
53 or higher
